 Entrepreneur Work Visa

Start your business. Build your life. Earn your residency.
The Entrepreneur Work Visa allows motivated individuals to establish or purchase a business in New Zealand. It’s a staged process that can lead to residence once the business is successfully running.
 How it works:
Stage 1: Entrepreneur Work Visa

  • Visa Validity: Up to 3 years (split into 12-month + 24-month phases)
  • Initial Phase: 12 months to set up or acquire the business
  • Second Phase: 24 months to run the business once operational
  • Path to Residence: Apply for residence under the Entrepreneur Residence Visa category after 2 years
(or after 6 months if high-value criteria are met)

Points System:

To qualify for the visa, applicants must meet a minimum of 120 points, assessed based on:

  • Capital Investment
  • Business Experience
  • Job Creation in NZ
  • Business Location (extra points for regions outside Auckland)
  • Innovative nature of the business

 Suggested Investment: Minimum NZD $500,000
While the minimum required capital is NZD $100,000, investing at least NZD $500,000 significantly boosts your points and improves chances of approval. This amount also reflects genuine business intent and provides a strong base to create jobs, grow a sustainable business, and qualify for residence faster under the 6-month pathway.
Pro Tip: Businesses in regional areas (outside Auckland) attract more points, faster community integration, and often lower operational costs.
